Welcome to Structure Chiropractic & PT. I would like to take this time to introduce you to our clinic and give you a few details about our treatment methods. I am a board certified chiropractor specializing in clinical neurology. I am a D.A.N. certified practitioner and utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to treating children that have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). Our efforts focus on finding the cause of the symptoms and resolving any deficiencies or biochemical roadblocks that may exist. Individuality is of utmost importance in our treatment protocols. While we acknowledge the fact that most ASD children have common digestive, immune, detoxification and biochemical disorders, each child responds to treatments in there own unique way. Our goal is try to restore these disorders by the least invasive means possible in order to allow the body to attain homeostasis and begin to function properly. Please understand that the road to recovery is often times a marathon and not a 100 yard dash.
The D.A.N. (Defeat Autism Now) project started in January of 1995. A child by the name of Garrett G. recovered from autism through biomedical intervention. Now, more than a decade later there are thousands of children who have recovered from autism as a result of the biomedical interventions pioneered by the innovative scientists and doctors in the D.A.N. movement.
Sid Baker, M.D., Jon Pangborn, Ph.D., and Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. started D.A.N. for several reasons. The main reason was that all three strongly disagreed with mainstream medicine’s insistence (which continues today) that autism is an in-curable, life-long disability whose symptoms might be somewhat ameliorated with psychiatric drugs. D.A.N. doctors meet at conferences two to three times a year throughout the country in order to stay up to speed on the latest treatment protocols and to discuss what is working for individual doctors around the country. D.A.N. practitioners are perpetual students on a quest to continue to help ASD children on their road to recovery.
Let's talk about treatment options. Treatment starts with DIET. I cannot state how important it is to maintain the specific diet that I recommended for your child. Not sticking to the diet and moving forward with a treatment protocol is like trying to put a fire out by spraying water on it from one side and spraying gasoline on it from the other. Supplements are expensive, and I don’t want parents throwing away hard earned money by giving their child the occasional glass of orange juice or sugary cookie. Biomedical intervention will start by running a series of lab tests that will give us a clinical and biochemical picture of where your child is today. We will use this data to help us choose what natural supplementation we will prescribe. We will use objective and laboratory measures to judge progress and continue forward on the road to recovery. Doing so will allow for a more cost-efficient and targeted approach to
recovery, as opposed to a broad and more expensive shotgun approach. Adjustments will be administered in order to resolve spine fixations, muscular and neurological or afferentation imbalances. Other treatment options may involve prescription medications (administered by an M.D. or D.O.), ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) and/or therapeutic exercise.
